From hobby to business

Welcome! I began sewing in 1995 as a hobby the summer after my first year as a fifth grade teacher. I would sew anything I could get my hands on, experimenting with different fabrics and sewing patterns. I made clothing for myself and gave home decor items as gifts. Soon, my friends and family began making requests and the idea to go into business was born.

Kreated by Kurrai began as HomeScapes Affordable Home Decor in 1998. My aspiration was to create decorator looks in the homes of my clients without decorator prices. But, I still enjoyed sewing clothing and through the encouragement of an aunt, I began doing alterations. I also started making hat and pocketbook sets out of old jeans and other fabric scraps. Those who admired my work would tell me that I was so creative. Since I had branched out from sewing home decor to apparel sewing, alterations, and making accessories, I decided to change the name of the business to Sew Kreative.

In the years that followed, I expanded into embroidery and teaching sewing classes to children and adults. I really enjoyed guiding my clients into learning their sewing machines and making their first garments! However, I was making a change in my education career and I put the business to the side. I still had that itch to stitch, though, so I would make a few things here and there. Now that some time has passed and I have a few more tricks up my sleeve, I'm ready to get back to business!
